Round about 1820; the "fabrique choletaise" formed a sophisticated social body. The individuals, who were part of it, were classified, according to their occupations, social statuses and economic activities by the tax authority, courts and local authorithies. All these institutions contributed in defining social identities, whose limites were sometimes vague. Then, group of weavers (workers and cratmen), of manufacturers and of trading manufacturers were dealt with, from the limitations set up by the authorithies above.

La Fabrique Choletaise, aux alentours de 1820, est un ensemble social complexe. Fiscalité, tribunaux, institutions municipales classent, à partir de la profession exercée, du statut social, de l'activité économique, les individus qui y participent. L'ensemble de ces discours contribue à définir des identités sociales (aux limites parfois imprécises). Sont examinés ensuite, à partir des délimitations introduites par ces instances, les groupes des tisserands (ouvriers et artisans), des fabricants et marchands-fabricants.
