Eine große städtische Laienbruderschaft. Hinsichtlich ihrer Verfassung und ihrer Funktionsweise ist die "Tafel der Heiligen Leiber" zunächst einmal als eine traditionelle innergemeindliche Laienbruderschaft zu verstehen. Betrachtet man jedoch ihre Rolle als Hüterin der heiligen Reliquien der hohen Stadt und als Hauptausrichterin der pfingstlichen Festivitäten ; die Anwerbung von Mitgliedern, die nicht dem Pfarrsprengel angehörten und die eine hohe gesellschaftliche Stellung einnahmen ; den starken Einfluß, den die Laienbruderschaft im städtischen Magistrat [Capitoulat] ausübte ; die engen Verbingungen, die sie mit dem Kapitel und der Abtei von Saint-Sernin vor allem bezuglich der Aufgabenteilung mit dem Laizistischen Kirchenvorstand unterhielt - so kommt man zu dem Schluß, daß sie eine einflußreiche Verbindung war, die derjenigen der großen stadtischen Laienbruderschaften entspricht.

A Great Urban Confraternity. According to its constitution and the way it functioned, the Table of the Holy Bodies was a traditional parish confraternity. Nonetheless, its role as guardian of the holy relics of the city and as principal organizer of the Pentecost festival, the recruitment of its members beyond the parochial framework and their high social origins, the important place of its leaders within the Capitoulat and the close relationship that it maintained with the chapter and the abbey of Saint-Sernin, particularly in sharing the responsability of the vestry, made it a powerful association that belonged to the family of the Great Urban Confraternities.

D'après sa constitution et son fonctionnement, la Table des Corps-Saints est à priori une confrérie paroissiale traditionnelle. Cependant, son rôle de gardienne des saintes reliques de la cité et de grande organisatrice de la fête de Pentecôte, le recrutement de ses membres hors du cadre paroissial et leur origine sociale élevée, la place importante de ses dirigeants au sein du Capitoulat et les rapports étroits qu'elle entretient avec le chapitre et l'abbé de Saint-Sernin, notamment en la responsabilité de la fabrique, font d'elle une association puissante qui appartient à l'évidence à la famille des Grandes Confréries urbaines.
