Contribution to the study of the forum of Vésone (Périgueux). The 1980 excavations at Périgueux, which took place on the supposed site of the forum of Vésone partially revealed by Durand at the beginning of the century, confirmed its localization. The flagstone courtyard thus revealed dating from around the middle of the first century after J.-C. would appear to belong to a first group : basilica/public courtyard of Augustan type. The subsequent addition of a courtyard sanctuary suggests the evolution towards an arrangement reminiscent of the Trajan forum : two public squares along the same axis and separated by the basilica. This transformation was part of a vast programme of reurbanisation of the whole monument centre during the 2nd century after J.-C.

Les fouilles de 1980 à Périgueux, effectuées sur l’emplacement supposé du forum de Vésone dégagé partiellement par Durand au début du siècle, ont confirmé sa localisation. La cour dallée ainsi retrouvée, construite vers le milieu du Ier siècle ap. J.-C., appartiendrait d’abord à un premier ensemble, basilique/cour publique de type augustéen. Par la suite, l’addition d’une cour sanctuaire traduit l’évolution vers un schéma inspiré du forum de Trajan : deux places alignées sur un même axe et séparées par la basilique. Cette transformation s’inscrit dans un vaste programme de réurbanisation de tout le centre monumental dans le courant du IIe siècle ap. J.-C.
