Le site de la “La Mariniesse” à Saint-Sylvestre-sur-Lot (Lot-et-Garonne) : l’occupation cyclique d’un rebord de terrasse en rive droite du Lot

The site of Saint-Sylvestre-sur-Lot “ La Mariniesse” is characterized by a succession of ancient occupations, from a paleolithic “ background noise” to a recent wine farm. A habitat of the final Bronze is approached starting from pits dumps having delivered an abundant ceramic furniture, another of the first Iron Age is similarly suggested by the consequent catalogue of pottery resulting from the rare association between four deposits of cremation and domestic pits dumps. If the second Iron Age is poorly informed, the reinvestment is obvious very early in the High Empire, with the establishment of a small Gallo-Roman villa of little documented plan for the region. This exploitation of the soil persisted during late Antiquity, in a narrow and semi-buried form for the buildings. The area continued to be frequented in medieval times, in a denser way around the 11th-12th centuries with ditch, silos, building and a battery of food ovens. This large archaeological opening of 3.2 hectares shows a progressive shift of the habitat towards the west, i. e. towards the current city centre.

Le site de Saint-Sylvestre-sur-Lot “ La Mariniesse” se caractérise par une succession d’occupations anciennes, depuis un “ bruit de fond” paléolithique jusqu’à une exploitation agricole viticole récente. Un habitat du Bronze final est pressenti à partir de fosses dépotoirs ayant livré un abondant mobilier céramique, un autre du premier âge du Fer est pareillement suggéré par le conséquent catalogue de vaisselier céramique issu de l’association rare entre quatre dépôts de crémation et des fosses dépotoirs domestiques. Si le second âge du Fer est peu renseigné, le réinvestissement est flagrant très tôt au Haut-Empire, avec l’implantation d’une petite villa gallo-romaine de plan encore peu documenté pour la région. Cette exploitation du terroir perdure durant l’Antiquité tardive, sous une forme resserrée et semi-enterrée pour le bâti. Le secteur continue d’être fréquenté à l’époque médiévale, d’une manière plus dense autour des xie-xiie s. avec fossés, silos, bâtiments et une batterie de fours alimentaires. Cette large ouverture archéologique de 3,2 hectares montre un glissement progressif de l’habitat vers l’ouest, c’est-à-dire vers le centre-ville actuel.
