A comparative analysis of several of the most famous annals of the beginning of the 1 st dynasty – and more specially of the reigns of Nârmer, Âha, Djer – shows that the debiting of the royal taxes was linked to a ceremonial context. The representation of a human sacrifice on some of these documents makes it possible to put forward the hypothesis that the word hat, before the reign of Der, would not designate necessary oil (hat.t) but the beginning of the harvests. Then, the ceremonial killing can be considered as a rite of fertility, the blood of the victim, collected in a container being intented te be poured on the ground prepared for the new sowing.

Une analyse comparative de plusieurs des plus célèbres tablettes du début de la 1ère dynastie – et plus spécialement des règnes de Nârmer, Âha, Djer – montre que le prélèvement des impôts royaux était lié à un contexte cérémoniel. La représentation d'un sacrifice humain sur certains de ces documents permet d'avancer l'hypothèse selon laquelle le mot hat, avant le règne de Den, ne désignerait pas forcément l'huile (hat.t) mais les prémices ("début") des récoltes, le meurtre cérémoniel pouvant alors être assimilé à un rite de fécondité, le sang de la victime, recueilli dans un récipient, étant destiné à être répandu sur la terre préparée pour de nouvelles semailles.
