An inquiry into the exchange of letters which took place in 1967-68 between the then Director of the Institut havrais de sociologie économique et de psychologie des peoples, Abel Miroglio, and André Nicolaï, a young and brilliant economist with a significant background and interest in sociology and anthropology, whom Miroglio saw as his ideal successor. The article contrasts the personalities and the positions of these two scholars, and thus gives an insight into an important episode of the history of the Institut, of its relationship with the University, and of the discussions of the time about the status of economics and economic anthropology and/ or sociology.

Etude de la correspondance échangée de 1967 à 1968, entre le directeur de l’Institut havrais de sociologie économique et de psychologie des peuples, Abel Miroglio, et André Nicolaï, jeune et brillant économiste ouvert à la sociologie et à l’anthropologie, qu’il souhaitait voir lui succéder à la tête de l’Institut. L’article trace un portrait contrasté des deux personnalités, met en lumière leurs positions respectives et donne un éclairage sur un moment important de l’histoire de l’Institut, de ses relations avec l’Université, et des débats concernant le positionnement de l’économie et de l’anthropologie économique.
