The A., relying on the book that he reported and at the same time adding to the manuscript tradition of the five authors which are kept, approachs the codicologic study of the latin classical manuscripts from the angle of musical paleography as regards Horace, Lucan, Statius, Terence and Virgil. Many accounts of clear passages with neumes actually exist in the manuscripts written by lyrical classical authors which were copied from the end of the IXth century to the end of the XIIth century. The existence of these neumes in the space between the lines has not always been detected or made out. It is the same for the neumes without text, often in shape of probatio pennae that we find in manuscripts in which the content has no connection with poetry and the purpose of which is not liturgical. The A. tries to identify and date these neumes in order to delimit the general problem relating to the contribution of each neumatic notation to a best knowledge of the provenance and sometimes the origin of a manuscript written in High Middle Ages.

Prenant appui sur le livre dont il rend compte et tout en complétant la tradition manuscrite des cinq auteurs qu'il retient, l'A. aborde l'étude codicologique des manuscrits classiques latins par le biais de la paléographie musicale appliquée à Horace, Lucain, Stace, Térence et Virgile. Il existe, en effet, de nombreux témoignages de passages précis neumés dans les manuscrits des auteurs lyriques classiques copiés de la fin du IXe s. à la fin du XIIe s. L'existence de ces neumes dans l'interligne du texte n'a pas toujours été perçue ou leur présence signalée. Il en est de même des neumes sans texte, souvent en forme de Probatio pennae, que l'on rencontre dans des manuscrits dont le contenu n'a aucun lien avec la poésie et dont la destination n'est pas davantage liturgique. L'A. s'efforce d'identifier et de dater ces neumes afin de cerner le problème général de l'apport de toute notation neumatique à une meilleure connaissance de la provenance et parfois de l'origine d'un manuscrit du haut moyen âge.
