Are surgical “robots” useful prestigious emblems for surgeons or do they represent dangerous competition for them? Do they disillusion surgery when they move the surgeon away from the body of the patient? Is the symbolic efficiency of the most advanced technical devices threatened, as well as the image of the latter among patients both too informed and not informed enough?

Les «robots» chirurgicaux peuvent-ils servir d’emblèmes prestigieux aux professionnels du bistouri ou bien leur font-ils dangereusement concurrence? Désenchantent-ils la chirurgie en éloignant le chirurgien du corps du patient? Sont en cause l’efficacité symbolique des dispositifs techniques les plus avancés, ainsi que l’image de ces derniers chez des patients trop et pas assez informés.
