This paper discusses the worldwide food situation as regards both the developed nations and the developing countries, analyses trade flows of farm and livestock products between these countries and discusses the major trade and food policies today. An analysis is made of the future prospects of food security in the developing countries, taking into account the growing deregulation of world farm and livestock trade. The potential implications of the GATT agriculture agreement and the effects of the CAP reform on the food situation in the developing countries are debated.

Cet article décrit la situation alimentaire mondiale des pays développés et en développement, analyse les flux commerciaux de produits agricoles entre ces pays et commente les principales politiques commerciales et alimentaires. Il analyse les perspectives de la sécurité alimentaire dans les pays en développement, en prenant en compte le dérèglement du commerce agricole. Les conséquences potentielles de l'accord agricole du GATT et les effets de la réforme de la PAC sur la situation alimentaire sont analysés.
