The model of the district «manufacturer» rests on the very strong coordination of three forms of regulation of the social exchanges that are the gift, the redistribution and the market. The quality of the social links is envisaged as the explanatory variable of the economic success of the productive territories which the paradigm of the gift explains, the professional communities mobilizing the local institutions in their profit. The studied area of reproduction of vegetable seeds illustrates the paradox of competition and cooperation.

Le modèle du district «industriel» repose sur la très forte coordination de trois formes de régulation des échanges sociaux que sont le don, la redistribution et le marché. La qualité des liens sociaux est envisagée comme la variable explicative de la réussite économique des territoires productifs que le paradigme du don explique, les communautés professionnelles mobilisant les institutions locales à leur profit. Le bassin de multiplication de semences potagères étudié illustre le paradoxe de la concurrence, de l’émulation et de la coopération.
