The aim is to highlight the role of firm size in its performance for product innovation. The hypothesis tested is that the companies in order to innovate mobilize differently both internal resources and external ones linked to its spatial environment. The data come from the Community innovation survey (CIS 2008). A Heckman type model allows to take into account the choice to innovate, but also the intensity of innovation. The results highlight the impact of size on innovation while showing differentiated forms of mobilization of internal and external resources linked to spatial environment.

L’objectif est de mettre en évidence le rôle de la taille de la firme dans sa performance à l’innovation-produit. L’hypothèse testée est que, pour innover, l’entreprise mobilise de façon différenciée ses ressources internes et les ressources externes liées à son environnement spatial. À partir des données de l’enquête innovation (CIS 2008), un modèle de type Heckman est proposé pour prendre en compte l’engagement dans l’innovation, mais aussi son intensité. Les résultats mettent en évidence l’impact de la taille sur ces processus d’innovation et des formes différenciées de mobilisation des ressources internes et externes liées à l’environnement spatial.
