Jean-Claude Delaunay, The Contemporary Mutation of the Service Sector and the Working-Class Movement The processes of de-industrialization and tertiarization of western economies certainly represent a new way of consuming and perhaps of producing in an increasingly complex social universe. Calling into question the central role of the producers, the shift of attention to consumers and users, and the expansion of female employment in the service sector have profoundly shaken the working-class movement and have given a new configuration to the social movement of salaried workers.
