1982-1990 : Urban growth in Nord -Pas-de-Calais Region. Urban growth has been almost stopped since 1975, but depopulation and migratory deficit have reduced themselves. Depopulation of the areas in economic difficulties, centers and internal suburbs keep depopulating, but slower, and also peripheral urbanisation and spreading out of external suburbs continue. In the western coal mining area, the situation is getting better, but the regional metropolitan area (Lille) is, by far, the main growing focus in Nord -Pas-de-Calais.

La croissance urbaine est presque stoppée depuis 1975, mais le dépeuplement et le déficit migratoire se sont atténués. Les zones en difficultés économiques, les centres et les banlieues proches continuent de se dépeupler, mais d'une façon souvent ralentie. L'étalement des banlieues externes et la périurbanisation se poursuivent. La situation s'améliore dans l'ouest du pays minier, mais la Métropole régionale est, de loin, le principal pôle de croissance du Nord -Pas-de-Calais.
