The Mexico/USA borderland, a view from the North. The International Border between Mexico and United States works like a geographical laboratory. Its interest stands in the importance of the differences issued of the immediate contact between North and South. It comes also from the impact of an history who dramatically changed the quantity and the complexity of the cross-border relations and yet the spatial organization of the borderlands, shifting from an «ignorated boundary» to the actual trend towards «a Transborder region». But this evolution can't be isolated from the variations of the perception of the region, which will be, particularly with a view from the North, the main focus of this text.

La frontière entre le Mexique et les Etats-Unis constitue un laboratoire géographique exceptionnel. Son intérêt réside à la fois dans l'ampleur du gradient généré par le contact immédiat entre le Nord et le Sud, et dans l'exemplarité d'une histoire qui a modifié radicalement l'ampleur et la complexité des flux, et donc l'organisation régionale des espaces frontaliers, depuis la «frontière ignorée» jusqu'à la région transfrontalière actuellement en gestation. Une évolution par ailleurs indissociable des changements du «vécu» frontalier des deux côtés.
