Since two centuries and for the same group of Crassulaceae, the authors hesitate between only one genus Kalanchoe sensu lato and two or three separate genera, Kalanchoe sensu stricto, Bryophyllum and Kitchingia. After a brief history, the diagnosis of the three genera are given and discussed. A detailed typology of the generic characters is introduced and illustrated with diagrams. The three genera Kalanchoe, Bryophyllum and Kitchingia are then analysed and delimited from the characteristics defined in the typology. The positions and the arguments of the previous authors which have treated of the classification of the group are examined and discussed. The taxonomic position of the intermediate species is fully explained with several comparative boards. A new classification is proposed with the single genus Kalanchoe subdivided in three sub-genera, Kalanchoe, Bryophyllum and Calophygia (a new intermediate sub-genus). Finally, a new schema is proposed for the origin and the evolution of the genus Kalanchoe sensu lato.

Depuis deux siècles et pour le même groupe de Crassulaceae, les auteurs hésitent entre un genre unique Kalanchoe sensu lato ou deux à trois genres distincts, Kalanchoe sensu stricto, Bryophyllum et Kitchingia. Après un rapide historique, les diagnoses des trois genres sont reprises et commentées. Une typologie détaillée des caractères de niveau générique est ensuite présentée avec l’aide de figures. Puis, les trois genres Kalanchoe, Bryophyllum et Kitchingia sont analysés et délimités sur la base des caractéristiques précédemment définies. Les positions et les argumentations des principaux auteurs ayant traité de la classification du groupe sont discutées à la lumière des nouvelles données. La situation taxonomique des espèces intermédiaires est longuement exposée ; elle est illustrée par plusieurs tableaux comparatifs. Une nouvelle classification est proposée comprenant un genre unique Kalanchoe subdivisé en trois sous-genres, Kalanchoe, Bryophyllum et Calophygia (sous-genre nouveau et intermédiaire). Enfin, un nouveau schéma de l’origine et de l’évolution du genre Kalanchoe sensu lato est proposé.
