Hydrothermal speleogenesis in the bibans (Atlas tellien, north Algeria). The «Azérous» are two small limestone mountains jutting out from wide marl spaces (the «Tellien sheets») in the region of the Bibans. Their surface is not realy a karst but they contain many caves which have been hollowed by thermal waters. The percolations are so weak that these caves have been very well preserved and so we can study old geothermal carbonate tanks. This study show the main morphological, structural, sedimentological and mineralogical features of such caves.

Les Azérous constituent deux petits pointements calcaires dominant les vastes étendues marneuses des nappes telliennes dans la région des Bibans. Bien que peu karstifîés en surface, ils recèlent d'innombrables cavités d'origine hydro-thermale. La faiblesse des infiltrations a permis une véritable fossilisation de ces réseaux et l'on peut donc observer, in situ, d'anciens réservoirs géothermiques carbonatés. Leur étude met en évidence les caractéristiques morphologiques, structurales, sédimentologiques et minéralogiques essentielles de ce type de réseau. Elle permet d'esquisser un modèle d'évolution.
