A fragment of Alemán (fr. 1, 59 Page = 3, 59 Calame) mentions a horse of Colaxaïs, a personage of the Scythian epics, who is also known to other sources (Herod. IV, 5-7 ; Val. Flac. VI, 48-59). The analysis of this fragment and its comparison with the Ossetic epics and other Iranian data allow the reconstruction of some features of the Scythian epics, which were the source of the Aleman’s information. Aleman has probably obtained his information about the Scythian world in Sardis, where he spent his youth (ca. third quarter of the 7th c. BC). Indeed, Lydians, as well as Ionians, had intensive contact with Iranian nomads (the Cimmerians and later the Scythians).

Un fragment d’Alcman (fr. 1, 59 Page = 3, 59 Calame) mentionne un cheval de Colaxaïs, héros de l’épopée scythe également connu d’autres sources (Herod. IV, 5-7 ; Val. Flac. VI, 48-59). L’analyse de ce fragment et sa confrontation avec l’épopée ossète et avec d’autres données iraniennes permettent de se faire une idée de l’épopée scythe qui était la source des informations d’Alcman. C’est sans doute à Sardes que le poète recueillit ses informations sur le monde scythe : il y avait passé sa jeunesse (troisième quart du VIIe s. av. J.-C.). En effet, les Lydiens, comme les Ioniens, avaient des contacts intensifs avec les nomades iraniens, les Cimmériens et plus tard les Scythes.
