J. Dubois was involved in the research group devoted to the study of aphasia and kindred disorders of language in the Sainte-Anne Neurosurgical Center in Paris under the direction of Dr. Henry Hécaen. His contribution was important to associate Linguistics and Neurology in setting up Neurolinguistics as a new scientific field. He was concerned by the study of "pure" agraphia, conduction aphasia, oral language disturbances in sensory aphasia, methodological issues in this new field of knowledge. He was at the spring for creative works carried up in the study of language in demented patients and in the study of the reading deficits in aphasie patients. He did participate with simplicity and efficiency to any tasks in the course of scientific work.

J. Dubois a participé pendant une longue dizaine d'années aux travaux du groupe de recherche constitué autour du Dr. H. Hécaen au Centre Neurochirurgical Sainte-Anne (Paris). Son apport fut important dans la réunion de la Linguistique et de la Neurologie pour la mise en œuvre de la Neurolinguistique comme discipline scientifique. Il contribua à des travaux consacrés à l'agraphie "pure", à l'aphasie de conduction, aux aphasies sensorielles, aux réflexions sur la méthodologie dans ce nouveau champ de connaissance. Il dirigea des travaux novateurs dans l'étude du langage des déments et des troubles de la lecture chez les malades aphasiques. Il participa avec simplicité et efficacité à toutes les tâches impliquées par le travail scientifique.
