The Practical Logic of Political Recruitment under the Constraint of Gender Parity Stéphane Latte The last French municipal elections saw the application of the law on parity, thus making the elaboration of lists of candidates more complex. The implementation of the new law contributed to the intrusion of actors that previously did not participate in the political game. It thus presents opportunities for the study of the social and political determinations of the recruitment of political personnel and of the way an external constraint on the electoral competition can be appropriated within a local political configuration. Through the presentation of a case study in Auxerre, the article tries and shows that the implementation of parity was the occasion of a massive redistribution of assets. Splits occurred, former political friendships and alliances were challenged. However, list leaders seemed to be able to convert this "obstacle" into a political resource that allowed them to reinforce their dominant position.

D'une part, la concurrence masculine au sein des partis s'accroît, les amitiés politiques se distendent, les scissions se multiplient. D'autre part, il faut trouver de « nouvelles têtes » donc recruter hors des canaux traditionnels de mobilisation. Dès lors les pratiques de recrutement politique perdent en évidence et gagnent en visibilité. A partir d'une enquête de terrain réalisée à Auxerre, cet article s'efforce de déceler les logiques pratiques qui président au choix des candidates et de décrire les appropriations localisées de la « contrainte paritaire ». Il met au jour les effets structurels qu'exerce l'appel aux femmes et aux profanes sur les rapports de force au sein des équipes et plus généralement sur la sélection sociale du personnel politique.
