Robert Coustet, born in 1934 in Bordeaux, art historian and honorary professor at the University of Bordeaux, was a particularly knowledgeable specialist of the artistic heritage of his region and a collector with a very fine taste. He gathered, among others, a collection of ceramics from Bordeaux, ranging from the beginning of the 18th century until the contemporary period.
