Résumé En

In Cicero’s rhetoric, the emotional impact of speech (pathos) clearly contributes to persuasion, especially in the genus grande. And actually, one of the most powerful tool to sway feelings and emotions is rhythm : paratactic rhythm is correlated with incisive and vehement style, whereas syntactic rhythm is associated with periodic and magnificent style. In this paper, I elucidate the pathos strategy of the De Domo Sua (performed in 57) in the light of these theoretical principles. Thus, I propose rhythmic analysis in order to understand how Cicero managed then to arouse anger and pity, and also to identify the different rhythmic and stylistic parameters that Cicero choses to do so.
