In Peters Handkes Texten stellt man immer wieder einen intensiven und bewussten Umgang mit der Natur und der Umwelt fest, trotzdem fällt es schwer, seine Bücher aus ökokritischer Perspektive zu lesen. Handke scheint die Freiheit und Autonomie der Literatur zu wahren und sich nicht vor einen umweltbewegten oder ökokritischen Wagen spannen lassen zu wollen. Der Roman Die Obstdiebin von 2017 soll hier auf dem Hintergrund des fünfzehn Jahre älteren opus magnum Handkes Der Bildverlust gelesen werden, wo das Motiv der Obstdiebin ebenfalls präsent ist. Anhand der beiden Romane mit Frauen, Mutter und Tochter, als Hauptfiguren, soll ein Versuch einer ökokritischen Lektüre von Handkes Texten im Zeitalter des Anthropozäns unternommen werden, wobei besonderes Augenmerk auch auf den Umgang der Frauen mit umweltfeindlichen patriarchalischen Herrschaftsstrukturen gerichtet wird.

On constate souvent une approche intensive et réfléchie de la nature et de l’environnement dans les textes de Peter Handke. Toutefois, il semble difficile de lire ses livres d’un point de vue éco-critique. Handke semble vouloir préserver la liberté et l’autonomie de la littérature, et non pas se laisser entraîner par une propension environnementaliste, voire éco-critique. La lecture du roman La Voleuse de fruits s’opère ici avec, en toile de fond, l’opus magnum de Handke : La Perte de l’image, paru quinze ans plus tôt. Le motif de la voleuse de fruits y apparaît également. À travers ces deux romans qui ont pour rôles principaux des personnages féminins de mère et de fille, nous tentons une lecture éco-critique des textes de Handke à l’ère de l’anthropocène, en portant un regard particulièrement pointilleux sur la manière dont les femmes font face aux structures de pouvoirs patriarcales nocives à l’environnement.

Although Peter Handke’s texts often display an intense and aware dealing with nature and the environment, it seems nevertheless difficult to read his books from an eco-critical perspective. Handke seems to want to preserve the freedom and autonomy of literature, and not being forced to hop on the train of environmental awareness and eco-critics. The reading of the novel The Fruit Thieves from 2017, is based on the background of the fifteen years older opus magnum, Handke’s Crossing the Sierra de Gredos, where the theme of the fruit thieve also occurs. Through these two novels with women, mother and daughter, as main-characters, we aspire to undertake an eco-critical reading of Handke’s texts in the Anthropocene era. Whereas we will also make a thorough observation on the way the two women have to deal with environment-harming and patriarchal structures of power.
