After his first trip to Karia, L. Robert noted the exceptional character of the rock-cut ‘temple’ grave of Berber İni near Mylasa in Karia (fig. 1.1). He was so impressed by the structure that he suggested, in a later publication, that it could be the tomb of Hekatomnos.
