Xipe Totec, “our Lord, the flayed” is a deity frequently represented in the pictographic manuscripts as well as in the statuary. Its ritual, the Tlacaxipehualiztli, a spectacular pageant which was given every year in its honour has been subject to much discussion and interpretations.
