Algunas voces, como la de Teresa Rojas, han clamado por la necesidad de estudiar el almacenamiento de los productos agrícolas en Mesoamérica, pero han tenido poco eco hasta ahora. En las noticias del Imperio Mexica, abundan las referencias a los productos tributados, y las descripciones de los mercados registran la presencia de una gran cantidad de cosas que llegaban a Tenochtitlan. Dadas las dimensiones de la ciudad, la necesidad de almacenamiento en distintos niveles y lugares y para diferentes productos es notoria, y es intención de este trabajo ofrecer algunas reflexiones sobre los almacenes que el Imperio debía tener y que no se han encontrado todavía.

Several scholars, like Teresa Rojas, have claimed for the necessity of investigating the storage of agricultural products in Mesoamerica, but they have had little success still now. Ethnohistorical sources about the Mexica Empire, are replete with mentions of the tributary products and descriptions of huge markets, all what indicate that high quantities of food as well as common and luxurious goods arrived at Tenochtitlan. Due to the dimensions of the city, the necessity of storage for many products in different places and at different levels is obvious. The main aim of this paper is to offer some reflexions about the Imperial stores that may have existed in Tenochtitlan but that we haven’t found yet.
