A cadet from Gascony Mondon-Vidailhet was born in Comminges, at Saint-Gaudens, capital of Nebouzan, on 1st February 1847. He was called François, Marie, Casimir. His father, Jean Mondon-Vidailhet, was the headmaster of a boarding school and his mother, Marie Paulandré, was a regrattière when she got married, which means she had a retail and second hand trade.
