Explica a importância das Bibliotecas Escolares na Educacão Infantil como apoio aos programas de estimulação precoz. Trata-se dos serviços onde convergem as atividades pedagógicas do centro e o entorno familiar e social da criança.Após uma visão global dos objectivos, funcões, servicos, fundos e instalacões com os que deve contar um centro destas características, passa-se a detalhar a forma na qual o docente-bibliotecario deve gerir o acervo, analisando os diversos meios que atuam como suporte ao processo ensino-aprendizagem para o desenvolvimento das habilidades motoras, cognitivas, sociais e afetivas. Menciona-se uma série de atividades a serem realizadas na biblioteca escolar infantil que precisam da adaptação não só ao tipo de escola, mas também aos diferentes grupos de alunos que a conformam, sem esquecer-nos de darmos apóio às necesidades docentes e fomentar a participação das famílias na formação da crianca.Conclui-se sinalizando que a convergência entre os objectivos da biblioteca escolar e os programas educativos do centro, fornecem à crianca as destrezas para o aprendizado que deverá desenvolver nas etapas seguintes, capacitando-o na busca e análise da informação e conhecimento ao longo da sua vida.

The importance of school libraries as a support for early learning stimulation programmes in child education is reviewed and placed into context with the role of libraries as a focal point for the integration of school teaching activities with the children’s social and familial environment.An overview will be presented of the concepts, aims, functions, services, financing and infrastructure that this type of library system should possess. Ways in which the teachers and librarian should manage the collections will then be examined, along with analyses of how different types of media contribute to the teaching-learning programmes for the development of motor, cognitive, social and emotional skills and awareness. A range of different activities will be outlined that can be undertaken in school libraries some of which may require tailoring of the library environment owing to differences in the types of schools and their children’s needs. This will take into account the support needed for teaching staff and the help required to promote parental involvement in the children’s education.It is concluded that the convergence of the purposes and aims of both the school library and school teaching programmes will enable the child to acquire fundamental learning skills that will improve their abilities to search and evaluate knowledge and information throughout their lives.
