Questo saggio delinea le differenze tra la “performance” e l’“evento performativo”, prendendo le mosse da una riflessione sulla natura delle fonti rinvenute dallo storico. Per fare ciò, affronta in modo comparativo anche il concetto di “evento”, nelle diverse accezioni desunte dalla storiografia tanto novecentesca quanto più recente. È inoltre affrontata una riflessione sul ruolo dello storico delle arti performative rispetto allo storico tout court.

This essay delineates the differences between performance and the performative event, beginning with a reflection on the nature of the sources discovered by the historian. To accomplish this delineation, the essay takes a comparative approach to the concept of the event in its various acceptations, drawing from both nineteenth-century and modern historiography. It also reflects on the role of the historian in the performing arts in comparison to that of the historian tout court.
