Kentin güneyinde nehrin en geniş menderesli akışını yaptığı kesimde killi depoların daha kolay ve çabuk aşındırılmasından dolayı vadi oldukça genişlemiş ve Hevsel bahçeleri adı verilen genç alüvyal dolgu malzemeli menderes yeniği taraçalarının oluşumuna neden olmuştur.Kentten deşarj edilen atık suyun ve bazalt akiferden boşalan sularla sulanan bu bahçelerin hem kentli nüfusun uzun yıllar sebze ve meyve ihtiyacının karşılanmasındaki önemi hem de görsel ve rekreatif açıdan bir doğal peyzaj alanı olarak rolü büyüktür.Nitekim söz konusu alan değişik çevrelerce farklı kullanım amaçları doğrultusunda sıkça gündeme gelmekte ve ciddi değişikliklere uğramaktadır.

South of the city, the largest meander of the river became a clay depot which made for very easy erosion over time, creating the vast terraced valley filled with alluvium we know today as the Hevsel gardens.Watered by the waste waters of the city and those drained from the aquifer basalt rocks, the gardens have met the needs of the city in fruit in vegetable for centuries, as well as made for a scenic landscape and recreational area. This area, put to different uses by different actors, is undergoing serious changes, which have often made the headlines in recent years. Our observation was achieved by extracting long term NDVI from Landsat imageries employing remote sensing techniques.
