Caspar Friedrich Wolff graduated as a doctor in Halle in 1759. His thesis titled Dissertatio sistens theoriam generationis was based on experiments in embryology. Wolff indicated that he observed vessels from the beginning of development, forming what was called the “venous valves”, as if molecules traced a path in the yolk membrane.
