De la fin de la République romaine jusqu’au vie siècle après J.-C., des matériaux de construction originaires des figlinae d’Italie centrale se diffusent à travers le territoire romain. Ces matériaux ont dû emprunter la Méditerranée et plusieurs fleuves pour arriver à destination, comme en témoignent la présence d’épaves à cargaison de tuiles en Méditerranée et la localisation des découvertes le long des côtes et des rivières. La plupart du temps, ces matériaux auraient servi de chargement complémentaire, ou de chargement de retour d’Italie. Dans d’autres cas, ils auraient été le résultat de commandes spécifiques, comme en Afrique du Nord ou en Sardaigne. La diffusion de ces objets est un témoin des routes fluvio-maritimes empruntées à l’époque entre l’Italie et les provinces extérieures.

From the end of the Roman Republic until the 6th century AD, building materials originating from the figlinae of central Italy spread through the Roman territory. These materials had to use the Mediterranean and rivers before arriving at their destination, as evidenced by the presence of wrecks loaded with tiles in the Mediterranean and the localization of discoveries along the coasts and waterways. Most of the time, these materials would have served as additional loading, or return loading from Italy. In other specific cases, they would have been the result of specific orders, such as in North Africa or Sardinia. The diffusion of these objects through the Roman territory is then one of the witnesses of the fluvio-maritime routes taken at the time between Italy and the outer provinces.
