Taking the concept of literature founded on speech-act theory as a basis, we have tried to explain whether – and if so, how and to what extent – various translators of Anna Seghers’Der Ausflug der toten Mädchen (The Excursion of the Dead Girls) have been able to successfully transmit specific textual devices found in this text into their respective target languages. To this end, we have combined textual analysis with history and reception aesthetics as well as with translation theory and practical criticism of translation. A detailed comparative analysis of certain selected passages from the two French translations by both Joël Lefebvre (whose 1956 and 1993 editions vary slightly) and Hélène Roussel (2006) reveals the difficulties of such translation work, last not least due to the different tense systems of French and German.

En partant d’une conception de la littérature fondée sur une théorie des actes langagiers, nous tentons de discerner si différents traducteurs du récit d’Anna Seghers Der Ausflug der toten Mädchen sont parvenus – et si oui, comment et dans quelle mesure – à rendre dans leur langue cible respective le procédé textuel spécifique mis en œuvre dans ce texte. À cette fin, nous combinons des questionnements relevant de l’analyse textuelle, de l’histoire et de l’esthétique de la réception, ainsi que de la théorie de la traduction et de la critique pratique des traductions. Une analyse comparative détaillée de passages choisis dans les deux traductions françaises : celle de Joël Lefebvre (dont les versions de 1956 et de 1993 présentent de légères différences) et celle d’Hélène Roussel (2006) fait apparaître à quelles difficultés est confronté un tel projet de traduction, notamment du fait des différences que présente le système des temps, en allemand et en français.

Auf der Grundlage eines sprachhandlungstheoretisch fundierten Literaturbegriffs unternehmen wir den Versuch zu erklären ,ob – und wenn ja, wie und in welchem Grade – es verschiedenen Übersetzern von Anna Seghers’ Der Ausflug der toten Mädchen gelungen ist, das in dieser Erzählung angewandte spezifische Textverfahren in der jeweiligen Zielsprache wiederzugeben. Zu diesem Zweck verbinden wir textanalytische, rezeptionsgeschichtliche und -ästhetische sowie übersetzungstheoretische und praktisch-übersetzungskritische Fragestellungen. Eine detaillierte vergleichende Analyse ausgewählter Passagen der beiden französischen Übersetzungen von Joël Lefebvre (in geringfügig voneinander abweichenden Versionen von 1956 bzw. 1993) und Hélène Roussel (2006) macht dabei deutlich, vor welche Schwierigkeiten sich ein solches Übersetzungsvorhaben, nicht zuletzt auf Grund der Unterschiede zwischen den Tempussystemen im Deutschen und Französischen, gestellt sieht.
