Maria Lina Leao Teixeira et al., « La présence des symboles judéo-chrétiens dans l’ésotérisme d’une religion afro-brésilienne », Presses universitaires de Lyon, ID : 10.4000/books.pul.10791
Following extensive field work, we have centered our interest in the process of symbolization – rather than in the system of symbols or a symbolic code – as the result of a social distance disclosed in the context of the heterogeneous and polycultural Brazilian society. Analysing rites and the adepts’ speech, the ambiguity of this symbolic mosaic became evident. On the one hand, this assemblage accompanies the hierarchized social relation model. On the other hand, it points to - vis-à-vis the dominant Jewish and Christian religious ideology - strategic mechanisms for capturing new adepts, as well as to the maintenance of a particular «black» and/or «afro» cosmovision in the process of symbolic appropriation and reinterpretation.
