Iconographie funéraire et espace architectural dans les hypogées néolithiques de Sardaigne

Depuis les années 1950, les études iconographiques consacrées à l’art des hypogées funéraire néolithique de Sardaigne se sont essentiellement intéressées au contenu des représentations (classements typologiques) et à leur chronologie (périodisations chrono-stylistique). L’article propose d’aborder le contexte spatial de cet art en examinant les formes récurrentes d’emplacement des motifs sur les supports architecturaux (parois, portes, piliers, plafonds) ainsi que la distribution de l’iconographie dans la planimétrie complexe des tombeaux. Les résultats empiriques de cette analyse donnent l’occasion d’un bilan critique des approches actuelles de l’art funéraire sarde et invitent à repenser le cadre théorique et conceptuel de ce champ disciplinaire.

Since the 1950’s, academic research on the rock-cut tomb art of Neolithic Sardinia has essentially focussed on the content of the art (typological classification) and its chronology (chrono-stylistic periodization). This article proposes to address the spatial context of the art by examining patterns in the position of the motifs on architectural supports (walls, doorways, pillars, ceilings) as well as their distribution within the complex design of the tombs. The empirical data resulting from this analysis give the occasion for a critical review of the current approach to Sardinian tomb art and invite to rethink the theoretical and conceptual framework of this particular field.
