In Uma Lição da História – A History’s Lesson (1909) –, Ana de Castro Osório adapts the literary knowledge, feeling and know how developed by women’s sensibility to the will of strengthening the national political conscience – a specially vital must for the aristocracy’s (or middle-class’) members whose support was so important to gain during the foundation of the Portuguese Republic (1910). Along the short-story analysis it will be shown how this republican writer takes advantages of allegory and literary strategy used by the Grimm Brothers to promote the role national education could play –specially among and by women – during this period of imperious political and economic reform.
