Dans cet article, Bernard Lahire s’attache à rappeler que la sociologie est d’abord et avant tout une pratique scientifique qui ne s’improvise pas et dont l’écriture n’est que le terminus, et une science supposant une longue formation universitaire et des méthodes d’enquête. On ne peut s’autodéclarer ou être qualifié de sociologue si on est écrivain ; de même, les sociologues ne peuvent faire comme si une écriture ou un texte pouvaient être « sociologiques » sans être le produit d’une formation et d’une activité scientifiques.

In this article, Bernard Lahire aims at reminding that sociology is first and foremost a scientifical one which can in no way be improvised, and for which writing is only the final stop—while being a science implying a long apprenticeship in university and training in methods of inquiry. A writer cannot define himself, nor can he be claimed to be a sociologist, and equally, sociologists are not allowed to do as if a writing style or a text had any value in sociology if it has not been produced out of a scientifical training or activity.
