Fin de un pueblo, fin del mundo: memorias y porvenires imaginados de Tixcacal Quintero, Yucatán

Este texto expone los modos en que algunos habitantes o emigrados de Tixcacal Quintero (Yucatán, México), recuerdan el pasado henequenero del pueblo e imaginan sus futuros. En un contexto posterior a emigraciones disparadas a mitad del siglo pasado, el texto recorre, desde la etnografía, el paisaje memorioso de esta localidad maya peninsular contemporánea, pensada como mundo por sus habitantes o emigrados, y cimentando su existir en el recuerdo y sus narraciones. Se transita por la memoria de los waychivos, el fin de la industria henequenera, el abandono del pueblo y los porvenires que sobre él se proyectan. Esto genera actitudes que pueden tenerse por escatológicas ante la probable desaparición del sitio.

This article presents the ways in which some people from Tixcacal Quintero (Yucatán, México), inhabitants or immigrants, remember the town’s henequenero past, and imagine its futures. Framed in a post-emigration context, which started in the middle of the last century, the text is a brief ethnography that recounts the memory-landscape of this contemporary Mayan town, conceived as a world by its inhabitants and migrants, evoking the place as a site that bases its existence in the acts of remembrance and narrate. The article goes through the memory of the waychivos, the end of the henequen industry, the abandonment of the town and the future that the inhabitants project on it, generating attitudes that could be considered as eschatological ones, facing the prospective disappearance of the town.
