Pourquoi le champ d’études du corps abîmé par la naissance, l’accident ou la maladie, pourtant si fertile, notamment dans sa capacité à dévoiler les profondeurs sociales, reste‑t‑il si peu exploré ? Pour répondre à cette question le lecteur est invité à suivre un entretien mené par Monique Selim avec Olivier R. Grim, anthropologue hors statut, spécialiste de ces questions. Ce dialogue propose un tour d’horizon où sont évoquées les raisons profondes qui empêchent la construction d’une anthropologie de l’infirmité comme champ à légitimer en termes scientifiques et à mobiliser en termes culturels, sociaux et politiques.

Why is the body which has been damaged by birth, accident or illness still so neglected an area of study in spite of being so rich a source, especially in its capacity to reveal social depths? To answer this question, the reader is invited to follow a discussion between Monique Selim and Olivier Grim, an anthropologist specialising in these questions. This comprehensive conversation brings out the underlying reasons why the anthropology of disability is prevented from becoming an area of study that can be legitimised, in scientific terms, and set in motion, in cultural, social and political terms.
