Les transactions économico-sexuelles : actrices et acteurs, institutions et territoires

Cet article adopte l'hypothèse avancée par Tabet (2004 ; 2001), selon laquelle les transactions sexuelles sont toujours encastrées dans un cadre économique, et cherche à illustrer comment cet encastrement se présente aujourd'hui avec une étude de cas numérique. Les transactions économiques sexuelles (TES) sont abordées dans une perspective institutionnaliste et territoriale, ce qui nous permet de compléter le cadre structuraliste de Tabet et de saisir les changements en cours. L'objectif est d'identifier les modalités relationnelles, institutionnelles et calculatoires des TES, et de proposer un idéal-type basé sur la théorie des transactions de Commons ([1934], 1989). Afin de comprendre l'interconnexion entre les TES et le reste de la société, nous identifions dans la deuxième section une typologie des territorialités, en utilisant les oppositions entre espaces publics et privés d'une part, et espaces commerciaux et domestiques d'autre part. Partant de l'idée que les TES ont historiquement constitué des activités qui structurent ces oppositions, nous examinons dans la troisième section comment la numérisation affecte aujourd'hui leur inclusion dans la société au travers du cas des sexcams. En conclusion, nous proposons l'hypothèse selon laquelle les TES ont par le passé revêtu un caractère menaçant pour l'ordre social, et ont toujours fait l'objet d'un lourd contrôle, notamment au sein de l'espace public marchand. Ce contrôle est aujourd'hui réinventé numériquement par certaines formes d’évitement du "stigmate de la putain" (Pheterson, 1993), tout en créant une séparation encore plus grande entre la sphère publique et commerciale d'une part et la force commerciale de la sexualité féminine d'autre part.

This paper adopts the hypothesis put forward by Tabet (2004; 2001), according to which sexual transactions are always embedded within an economic framework, and seeks to illustrate how this embeddedness is presented today with a digital case study. Sexual Economic Transactions (SET) are approached from an institutionalist and territorial perspective, enabling us to supplement Tabet's structuralist framework and capture the changes that are underway. The aim is to identify the relational, institutional and computational modalities of SETs, and to propose an ideal-type based on Commons' transaction theory ([1934], 1989). In order to understand the interconnection between SETs and the rest of society, in the second section we identify a typology of territorialities, using the oppositions between public and private spaces on the one hand, and commercial and domestic spaces on the other. Taking as our starting point the idea that SETs have historically constituted activities that structure these oppositions, in the third section we examine how digitization today affects their inclusion in society through the case of sex cams. In conclusion, we propose the hypothesis that SETs have in the past assumed a character that threatens to jeopardize social order, and have always been subject to heavy control, particularly within the public commercial space. This control is today digitally reinvented by certain forms of avoidance of the “whore stigma” (Pheterson, 1993), while creating even greater separation between the public and commercial sphere on the one hand and the commercial force of female sexuality on the other.
