Cyborg ou/et « handi-capable » ?L’expérience du corps capacitaire chez des participants au Cybathlon

Le Cybathlon est une compétition sportive d’un nouveau genre qui confronte des personnes sportives handicapées utilisant des technologies d’assistance avancées. L’objectif de ce papier est double. À partir de l’analyse des discours des athlètes ayant participé à la première édition du Cybathlon en 2016, nous souhaitons d’une part comprendre la position des sportifs vis-à-vis de la « figure du cyborg » qui semble traverser cette nouvelle discipline, et d’autre part mettre au jour l’expérience corporelle originale de ces athlètes « hautement technologisés ». Nous mettrons ainsi en avant le décalage qu’il peut exister entre la figure du Cyborg et la réalité quotidienne de ces sportifs. Aussi, nous pourrons constater que l’interaction homme-machine participe à la production d’un corps sportif « handi-capable » et propose une reconfiguration des modalités d’être au monde.

Cybathlon is a new kind of sporting competition that confronts disabled athletes using the latest assistive devices. The purpose of this paper is twofold. On one hand, based on the analysis of the speeches of the participants in the first edition of Cybathlon 2016, we aim at understanding the standing of the athletes regarding the “image of the Cyborg” which seem to span this new discipline. On the other hand we want to expose the bodily experience of these “highly technologized” athletes. We will thus highlight the discrepancy that may exist between the image of the Cyborg and the day-to-day reality of these sportsmen. In addition, we will see that man-machine interaction result in a certain “disabled-capability” in sports and provide a reconfiguration of the “being in the world”.
