Giovanna Bellati, « Images de Paris dans la poésie de Théophile Gautier », Studi Francesi, ID : 10.4000/studifrancesi.2039
Despite being born in the South of France, Gautier lived in Paris his entire life, and considered himself an authentic Parisian. He devoted to the city and its inhabitants both witty and dramatic pages, depending on the circumstances and on his frame of mind. This article analyses a corpus of poems illustrating different aspects of Paris and different points of view of the poet on the Parisian space. From the poems devoted to the gardens and to the flânerie, to the miniatures of Emaux et Camées and the image of the city martyrised during the Franco-Prussian war, the most varied attitudes follow one another in these pages: from a simple descriptive point of view to the expression of an intense affectivity, from a global perspective to the focus on picturesque aspects, and to the symbolism of the Ville-lumière as a paradigm of modernity.
