The six years since this article was first published have seen a slow increase in public knowledge of the United States' acoustical practices during the so-called “war on terror.” My own research expanded to include the first-person accounts of several more released detainees, whose imprisonment in the CIA's “dark prison,” in Kandahar and Guantànamo included both “interrogational” and “terroristic” torture.
