Ses relations avec le sionisme, commencées à Manchester en 1906 et approfondies dans le contexte de la Déclaration du 2 novembre 1917, ont fait de lui et de sa famille un véritable lieu de mémoire.Lord Lionel Walter Rothschild (1868‑1937)Le destinataire de la Déclaration Balfour est un des héritiers de la prestigieuse famille de banquiers, dont la branche anglaise a été jusque‑là très prudente en matière de sionisme. À la demande de Chaïm Weizmann, il participe aux démarches préliminaires à la Déclaration.
