According to Asia-Plus, on April 16th 2020, the Embassy of the Republic of Tajikistan in Russia announced that a Tajikistani citizen living in Russia died from COVID-19 – counting as the first officially recognized death from the worldwide pandemic. He was living in an apartment with six other compatriots nearby Moscow. The Embassy reported that “since joint prayers are not allowed anymore, we gathered 20-30 people to bury our compatriot”.
