Le graffite de la villa de Poulainville a été réalisé à la pointe post cocturam sur un fragment d’amphore. On distingue deux éléments : un quadrillage simple et un texte d’une ligne. Le tesson a été brisé, endommageant à la fois le texte et l’image. Les croisillons font penser soit à ceux d’une balustrade ou d’un balcon et le texte pourrait être lu comme une référence, peut-être suivie d’un prix, désormais disparu, à des travaux. L’autre hypothèse serait d’y reconnaître une grille de jeu et le nom de la personne à qui il était destiné. Ce serait alors un jeu de marelle classique.

A graffito found on an amphora sherd at the villa at Poulainville is the subject of this contribution. It had been inscribed with a stylus post-cocturam. Two elements can be recognized comprising simple gridlines and one line of text. The fragment was broken, damaging both the text and the image. The grid lines may show structural supports reminiscent of those for a balustrade or a balcony, while the text could be read as a reference to or quote from a literary work now otherwise lost to us, perhaps followed by a price. The other hypothesis is to see this as a gamegrid and the name of the person for whom it was intended. If the latter is the case, it could then be understood to represent the classic game of marelle or merelle.
