L’article met en évidence la perception, en Belgique francophone, de la première phase de la guerre d’Indochine (1946-1950) et, plus particulièrement, son impact sur l’image de la France. Il montre comment, dans le contexte d’un conflit encore considéré comme colonial, la France a dû faire face à une double contre-propagande, l’une d’extrême gauche, l’autre dans le camp catholique. Il souligne enfin l’absence d’une réponse française appropriée, cohérente et efficace.

This article will study the image of the first phase of the Indochina War (1946-1950) and through it the global image of France– in French-speaking Belgium. As the war was then seen as aiming at a restoration of the colonial order, the French cause was harmed by a double counter-propaganda. One came of course from the far-left but, more surprisingly, the other came from Catholic circles. It should be noted that the French rebuttal was lacking in relevance, coherence and effectiveness.
