Irina Podgorny et al., « The rediscovery of Bolivian lowland archaeology in the repositories of the Museo de La Plata. Some results of the Project SciCoMove », HAL-SHS : archéologie, ID : 10670/1.0gf4v2
What interest can archives have for contemporary research beyond that which they may arouse among his-torians of science? Partly to answer these questions, in 2019, two of the authors of this paper decided to or-ganize a project on this topic: SciCo-Move (Scientific Collections on the Move), launched in 2021. This essay aims to present some of its results, in particular, on the work and lost archi-ves of Argentine archaeologists Ber-nardo Dougherty (1941-1997) and Ho-racio Calandra, both from the Museo de La Plata, who in the 1980s con-ducted excavations in Beni, Bolivia, of which practically nothing survives: the sherds obtained in that work were crushed to pave roads. Archival work, in this case, demonstrates how it can give new life to a destroyed collection, providing some of the lost data.
