La « démocrature », combinaison inédite des procédures formelles de la démocratie représentative avec la démagogie autoritaire, est peut-être une pente sur laquelle nous sommes engagés. Son origine se trouve dans le discrédit des institutions traditionnelles, et dans la perte de confiance à l’égard des gouvernants qui en résulte. Peut-on prendre un autre chemin, notamment en distinguant mieux, dans notre démocratie, la fonction d’incarnation de la nation de la fonction de gouvernement ? Une révision constitutionnelle peut-elle le permettre ? Est-elle seulement possible ?

As an hitherto unseen combination of the formal procedures of representative democracy and authoritarian demagogy, democratorship might be a slope on which we are engaging. Its origin is to be found in the discredit of traditional institutions and the loss of confidence in governments it has produced. Can we follow a different path, for instance by introducing a clearer distinction between the function of incarnation and the function of government? Could a revision of the Constitution allow it? Would such a distinction even be possible?
