 : Après avoir rappelé l’existence ancienne du terme “institution” en sociologie (Durkheim, Mauss), l’auteur note avec Boltanski le caractère étrange du concept, fondateur en sociologie, mais flou dans ses usages et sa polysémie, et au statut épistémique incertain. L’article reconstruit alors le concept à partir de la psychothérapie institutionnelle (Tosquelles, Oury) pour penser son écart d’avec la notion d’ “établissement”, et à partir de la pédagogie institutionnelle en introduisant une série de notions : norme, discipline, violence symbolique, conflit, qui permettent d’en décrire le champ et d’en caractériser les dynamiques. L’ “analyse institutionnelle” se définit alors comme une psychosociologie critique des institutions (Lapassade), visant à en mettre à jour le fonctionnement occulte, leurs enjeux de pouvoir, et susceptible d’intervenir dans le champ pratique pour œuvrer à leur remise en cause sociale et politique.

Institution After recalling the former existence of the term “institution” in sociology (Durkheim, Mauss), the author notes with Boltanski the strange nature of the concept, which is foundational in sociology, but which lacks focus in its uses and its multiple meanings, and whose epistemic status is uncertain. The article then rebuilds the concept based on institutional psychotherapy (Tosquelles, Oury) to consider the gap with the concept of “establishment”. Based on institutional pedagogy, he introduces a series of concepts: standard, discipline, symbolic violence, conflict that allow him to describe the field and to characterize its dynamics. The “institutional analysis” is then defined as a critical psychology of institutions (Lapassade), aiming to disclose covert functioning and power issues. The analysis may be applied in the practical field in the form of social and political challenges.
