La tradition offre à la question écologique un fondement théologique des plus riches. Celui-ci s’enracine dans la doctrine trinitaire, mystère central de la foi chrétienne. La création et l’autocommunication du Dieu un et trine constituent deux moments d’une unique expression de l’Amour divin. L’immanence réciproque des personnes divines fonde le caractère interrelationnel de la création entière. De ce constat découle une appréciation de la création en termes de promesse tournée vers son accomplissement final. La tradition chrétienne de l’amour des pauvres est compatible avec l’émergence d’un amour renouvelé pour la nature.

The Christian tradition grounds ecological concern in a rich theological foundation. This foundation is rooted in the doctrine of the Trinity, the central mystery of the Christian faith. Creation and Trinitarian self-communication are two moments of the unified expression of divine Love. Divine perichoresis or communal, mutuallyindwelling relationality among the Father, Son and Holy Spirit grounds the ontologically relational character of all creation. From this flows an appreciation of creation as divine revelation and as imbued with the fullness of eschatological promise. Traditional Christian love for the poor is compatible with the emerging focus on love for nature.
